Project MUSE Books Program
The Project MUSE Books Program is designed to meet the research needs and budget of any size or type of library. To meet those needs, MUSE offers a variety of purchase options, including Collections, Single Title Sales, and Evidence Based Acquisitions.
Books Custom Collections
Books Custom Collections offer libraries the ability to assemble unique book collections catered to their budget and research needs. Collections may be assembled based on publication year, subject, price, and more. Depending on a library’s needs, a Custom Collection may include just a handful of titles or hundreds. Every book launched on Project MUSE (not including Open Access titles) is eligible for inclusion in a Custom Collection.
Books Custom Collections prices are based on the price of each book in the collection, the number of books in the collection, and the size and type of institution purchasing.
Current Year Collections
In addition to custom collections, Project MUSE continues to offer our popular annual Current Year Collections. Current Year Collections are priced and sold each Fall for the following year, giving libraries the option to access newly published books the moment they launch on MUSE. Libraries have the option of buying all current year books or a fixed subset of them based on subject or area studies.
Single Title Sales
Books on MUSE are also available for sale via our Single Title Sales program, which leverages partnerships with library approval vendors EBSCO GOBI Library Solutions and ProQuest Oasis.
Single Select Book
Project MUSE offers the Single Select Books option for those books that are not appropriate for the Collections, such as reference books or books with course book potential. Some books are priced too low for the Collections, such as “digital shorts.” Still other books are not in appropriate subject areas for collections, such as consumer health, but are still valuable additions to certain libraries’ ebooks collections.
Single Select Books are in the Single Title Sales Program but cannot be discounted for Collections sales.
Evidenced Based Acquisitions
This program offers libraries the best of both the Collection and Single Title Sales worlds. All books in the Single Title Sales Program, including Single Select Books, are eligible to be included in a library’s Evidence Based Acquisitions program. Project MUSE collects the full amount committed to the books purchase, then libraries purchase the books that their patrons use. In many cases, publishers realize sales of books that librarians would not have selected.
